FAQ

We, at Nourishing Expert, LLC provide a range of nutrition services tailored to address nutrition and lifestyle related problems related to inflammation, pre-diabetes, diabetes, heart disease, food sensitivities, gut problems and/ or hormone imbalances. We integrate a holistic and functional medicine approach to effectively manage your nutrition and lifestyle concerns.
Before meeting with the “Registered Dietitian” for your initial consultation, there are three essential steps to complete:

Step 1:

Please complete and submit the Pre-screening Health Form, which is accessible under the Contact section on www.nourishingexpert.com.

Kindly provide comprehensive details regarding your health history and the purpose of your consultation. Lavanya Kethamukkala, RDN, CLT, LDN, will review the information provided on the Pre-screening Health Form and respond within 1-2 business days. The response will include:
  • A detailed plan outlining how Lavanya Kethamukkala, RDN, CLT, LDN, intends to support you in managing your nutrition and health concerns. If necessary, Lavanya may arrange a time to discuss the specifics of her nutrition action plan over a call.
  • An estimate of the approximate number of nutrition consultations required.
  • Information on the topics covered in each session.
  • Details regarding access to and discounts for our virtual pharmacy. Once Lavanya and the client have agreed to collaborate, further instructions and next steps will be provided.


Step 2:

Requesting Physician’s office note and Lab reports

Why is your medical information being requested?

Thoroughly examining your medical records is essential to gather comprehensive details about your laboratory results, medications, as well as your past and present medical history. This enables me to offer more effective assistance. Even if you are covering the expenses out-of-pocket, it is imperative that I review your medical records before proceeding with your nutrition appointment.

Additionally, your medical documents provide valuable information that may aid in facilitating insurance coverage.

Your healthcare provider may require your “Authorization to release your medical information” to me. This process typically takes 3-5 business days. Therefore, I encourage you to promptly contact your doctor's office to initiate this process.

Please request your doctor’s office to fax me “Physician’s Office note and Labs” from your recent or last year annual visit.

Step 3:

Insurance coverage and payment

Nourishing Expert, LLC will review the medical records received from your doctor’s office and provide specific “Procedure and Diagnostic codes” pertaining to your medical condition to check for Insurance coverage.

Please ask your customer service representative the following questions after we send you the specific codes.

  • Procedure and Diagnostic codes ( Lavanya will share this information after reviewing your medical records).
  • How many visits are allowed under my plan per calendar year?
  • Do I require a doctor’s referral to see a dietitian?
  • Is Telehealth covered under my plan?
  • Do I have any nutrition counseling benefits covered under the preventative care portion of my plan (examples of preventative care refers to healthy eating, general nutrition, managing overweight, pre-diabetes etc)?
  • Do I have a deductible to meet before insurance pays?
  • Do I have a co-pay or co-insurance?
  • Is Lavanya kethamukkala, RDN, LDN with “Nourishing Expert, LLC” a covered provider under my plan?
  • If I am not covered for nutrition benefits under my insurance plan, what are my “Out-of- network” nutrition benefits?

Make sure to obtain the “Reference number for your call” and note down the date and the name of the customer service representative you are speaking with. This is very important if your insurance claim gets rejected.

Step: 4

Following verification of insurance coverage or receipt of payment for out-of-network clients/cash clients, the next step is to assist you in completing the necessary paperwork.

Complete paperwork in the Online Nutrition Portal and download the portal’s app for future communication regarding upcoming appointments, document sharing and chatting with the provider.

1. What is the timeframe for scheduling an appointment with the dietitian?

The timing of your appointment hinges upon several factors, including your prompt response to provider emails, obtaining requested medical information from your doctor's office (which may take 3-5 business days), verifying insurance coverage (takes no more than 15-20 minutes), and completing intake forms (15-20 minutes). Typically, if all requested information is promptly provided and the provider's schedule permits, you can anticipate seeing the provider within 1-2 weeks.

2. How can I determine if my insurance covers nutrition visits?

Nourishing Expert will assess the medical information provided by your doctor's office and supply you with relevant medical codes to verify coverage with your insurance provider. Coverage for nutrition services is contingent upon your specific insurance plan, including factors such as deductibles and plan provisions. Please refer to Question 2, step 3 for more information.

3. How many visits will I require?

The number of visits needed depends on factors such as your current nutritional status, medical condition, and lifestyle. Typically, clients may require 2-4 visits, though those with complex medical issues or specific goals may necessitate additional sessions.

4. What are functional and metabolic tests, and how can I determine if they're appropriate for me?

Nourishing Expert will evaluate whether you could benefit from these tests based on factors including age, genetic background, medical history, nutritional status, and lifestyle.

5. Are functional and metabolic tests covered by insurance?

No, these tests are not typically covered. However, you may request a Superbill (receipt) to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

6. Will I receive a copy of my lab results?

Yes, you will receive detailed explanations of your lab results during your appointment.

7. Can my physician conduct these tests?

Currently, these tests are not administered by physicians. While some may order them, they are typically paid for out-of-pocket as insurance reimbursement is not available.
